APPS / THE TASK BEFORE THE PLATFORM

Do we need an app? Or does it need to work on a phone?

Those are different requirements. An icon on a home screen does not fix an awkward workflow. Start with who will use it, where and how often. Then choose a website, web app or iOS and Android development.

Tell us what needs to work
  1. Real use
  2. Device
  3. Distribution

The phone is the context. The icon is a detail.

Does a technician need to record a job with no signal? Does a customer book once a month? Different tasks need different solutions. We map frequency, environment, access, camera, notifications and data. If three fields need an instruction manual, a new icon will not help.

A PWA extends a web application with capabilities such as installation and offline use where implemented and supported. Capabilities depend on the browser, operating system and device. Notifications, camera access, storage and background behaviour need testing rather than assumptions of parity.

The app store is a channel. With its own bill.

A responsive website may cover information and contact. A web app adds accounts and operations in the browser. A mobile app may suit frequent use or specific device features. Offline access, notifications and installation need checking on the intended devices. “Works on mobile” is not a complete specification.

When the app connects to business software, APIs and permissions must reflect user roles. The first test covers an entire task: open a job, record its outcome and find the record in the system. This is more useful than ten disconnected screens.

Test the task first. Build the app second.

Before development, test the main journey with a prototype: enter, find the task, complete it and recover from an error. The mobile examples on our website are web prototypes to explore. We do not present them as native apps already published for clients.

ARXE Studio develops custom projects from Bolzano and works online with businesses in Trento and Veneto. Public mobile examples are demonstration web prototypes, not a portfolio of delivered native apps. The quote separates interface, backend, integrations, migration and ongoing management.

The practical choice

iOS, Android, web app or PWA: define the requirements first.
SituationWorth considering
An occasional service accessed by a linkA responsive web app without requiring immediate installation.
A frequently used web serviceConsider a PWA and test its functions on the intended devices.
Extensive use of device functionsCompare mobile development with platform constraints.
Work without connectivityPlan local data, synchronisation and conflict handling.

Where are you starting?

Recognise your situation? Start here. Scope and investment still need a review of your workflows, data and existing tools.

Where are you starting?

First step

Test one complete web workflow first and assess whether installation adds a concrete benefit.

Before the quote

Tell us what needs to work

  1. Users, frequency and the first task they must complete.
  2. Devices and versions to support.
  3. Required features: camera, notifications, location or offline use.
  4. Connected systems and data, including roles and access.
  5. Distribution, maintenance and account ownership.

The quote separates initial development, content, external services and recurring costs. Access, source code, handover and support have a written scope.

Useful questions

Does a web app automatically become a mobile app?

No. Data and APIs can be shared, but the interface, device functions, tests and distribution still require dedicated work.

Do PWAs work the same everywhere?

No. Available features and requirements differ between browsers and operating systems. Target devices and tests belong in the project scope.

Do you have installable examples?

Our public catalogue shows explicitly labelled mobile web prototypes. We do not present them as native apps published in stores.

ARXE STUDIO / BOLZANO — BOZEN

The project moves forward. You can stay at your desk.

We build custom software, websites, apps and AI integrations from Bolzano / Bozen. We work online with businesses across South Tyrol, Trento and Veneto: briefs, prototypes and reviews by message or email. Italian and German come first, with English where the project needs it. A clear process matters more than the distance.
